Table Tennis

1/15

Historically table tennis has been regarded as a recreational activitiy at The H.E.R.O. Academy.  However, recent superior performances in several national tournaments has propelled table tennis to become a full-time athletic program.  Haiti has a long and succesful history in table tennis, sending international travel teams to the Dominican Republic, United States, and Canada.  Table tennis offers many opportunities for the H.E.R.O. Academy  Scholar Athletes to train and compete at the national and international levels.

Earlier this year all of the H.E.R.O. kids participated in a national table tennis tournament in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.  More than 100 children across Haiti participated in two age categories: Under 20 and Under 14.  After the qualifying rounds all five H.E.R.O. Scholar Athletes earned a spot in the quarterfinals and battled it out for the chance to be crowned Haiti’s National Table Tennis Champion.  Only Jude managed to reach the finals of the Under 14 category and he had a decisive victory over his opponent winning three sets to zero.  One highlight of Jude’s victory was the after match interview that was shown all across Haiti later in the evening.  Jude gave a composed interview, thanking H.E.R.O. for his academic, athletic, and mental preparation for the event.  We are so proud of Jude and his amazing achievement!
